Recalls Widen Due to Salmonella Outbreak
General Mills, Kellogg Co., McKee Foods Corp., Ralcorp, Clif Bar, Abbott Nutrition, Kroger, Meijer, Hy-Vee Inc. and Country Maid are just a few of the companies that have voluntarily recalled products that contain peanut butter possibly tainted with salmonella, according to the Food & Drug Administration Web site.

Mrs Baird's to Shutter Aging Waco Operation |

Mrs Baird's Bakeries will cease manufacturing operations at its facility in Waco, Texas, by mid-April 2009, but the company will keep the facility and continue local shipping and transport operations. Mrs Baird's products will still be available in the Waco and Central Texas market. more
Barrel O'Fun Constructs New Snack Facility To better serve the western United States, Barrel O'Fun Snack Foods is building a 140,000-sq.-ft. production and distribution facility on about 12.5 acres in Phoenix, Ariz., according to published reports. The overall costs for the plant, which should be in operation by the fourth quarter of 2009, are estimated to be in the $25 million range.

Legends in the Industry
ASB Names 2009 Baking Hall of Fame Class Bakery pioneer Dora Schwebel raised six children on her own, helped feed her community during the Great Depression and built one of the industry's most successful independent bakeries through sheer will by outworking the competition. That's why she is one of four industry legends to be inducted into the Baking Hall of Fame during the American Society Baking's 2009 BakingTech conference, which runs from March 1-4 in Chicago.
