Circle Foods Opens 132,000-sq.-ft. Tortilla Operation
Circle Foods, the San Diego-based producer of tortillas, plans to double its production capacity after opening its new facility. The state-of-the-art plant, located in Otay Mesa, Calif., is compliant with Food & Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture food safety standards and includes such environmental conservation features as a water treatment facility and energy efficient refrigeration and electrical utilities.

Kraft Pizza Officially Expands Pizza Operation
Kraft Pizza Co. officially opened the doors to its newly expanded Little Chute, Wis., pizza plant recently. Attended by Kraft Foods employees and members of state and local government, the ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the 108,000-sq.-ft. addition to the plant. The expansion will bring about 300 new jobs to the community. To date, about 200 of those jobs have been filled.

Atkins Diet Returns in Vegetarian Form It's baa-aack! A new study shows a vegetarian version of the Atkins low-carbohydrate diet may help people lose weight and lower levels of bad (or LDL) cholesterol in the blood.
The traditional Atkins diet consists of low carbohydrate foods and a high intake of animal protein. Although studies to date have shown the traditional Atkins diet may produce modest weight loss, these studies have not demonstrated a reduction in the major heart disease risk factor, LDL or "bad" cholesterol levels, according to St. Louis-based Solae LLC. more

BNP Media Becomes IBIE Media Sponsor BNP Media, the publishing company that owns Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery magazine, will join forces again with the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) as an official media sponsor. BNP Media, based in Troy, Mich., is one of three major publishers that entered into agreements with IBIE as part of a cooperative effort to market the 2010 event.
