Attention All Flatbread Producers
Many exciting developments have highlighted the year so far for the Tortilla Industry Association, notes Jim Kabbani, executive director of the organization. In a letter to the industry, which will appear in the upcoming August issue of Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery magazine, Kabbani notes TIA's board of directors recently voted to open membership eligibility to all types of flatbread producers. This means that companies that make pita, Tandori naan, lavash, chapati or any other type of flatbread can now enjoy the many benefits of TIA membership.

TIA Jumps on IBIE 2010 Bandwagon In 2010, the Tortilla Industry Association will hold its annual two-day technical conference in conjunction with the International Baking Industry Exposition. TIA's conference is now scheduled for September 25-26, 2010 and will be integrated into IBIE's educational program alongside offerings from the American Institute of Baking and the Retail Bakers of America. IBIE 2010 runs from September 26-29, 2010 in Las Vegas.

Acquisition Expands Lallemand's Product Portfolio Lallemand Inc. has completed of the acquisition of Lake States Yeast Division from the Wausau Paper Group.
Rhinelander, Wis.-based Lake States Yeast, a producer of inactivated torula yeast, will operate as a separate unit within Lallemand, but its product portfolio will be integrated in the Lallemand Bio-Ingredients division, which makes inactive yeasts and yeast extracts produced in Montreal, Canada; Salutaguse, Estonia; and Grenaa, Denmark. more

How to Develop Value-added Products Clextral Inc. will hold a Short Course on Extrusion, "Transform your raw materials into value-added extruded products," on October 28-29, in Tampa, Fla.
