Expect Acrylamide Issue to Flare Up Again Previously on the backburner, the acrylamide issue will likely heat up this fall. That's following last month's Federal Register Notice that calls for food companies, including bakers and snack producers, to provide to the Food and Drug Administration with comments, scientific data and information on the practices they have used to reduce acrylamide in food. In addition, the FDA is asking food companies to document how much they have been able to reduce acrylamide levels.

Lance to Acquire Stella D'oro Business Lance has entered into an agreement to buy Stella D'oro Biscuit Co., including its brand as well as certain equipment and inventory. The Charlotte, N.C.-based company will move production of Stella D'oro brand products to its Ashland, Ohio, bakery, which it acquired when it purchased the assets of Archway last December.

Schwan Sells its T&N Foods Canadian Operation The Schwan Food Co. has sold a Canadian subsidiary back to a company led by Tony Merulla, the founder of the Montreal-based producer of frozen pizza and other bread products that are sold under private label brands in supermarkets and foodservice chains throughout the United States and Canada.
