The Key West Key Lime Pie Co. won first place for its Original Key Lime Pie Bar.

The Key West Key Lime Pie Co. won first place for its Original Key Lime Pie Bar at the 2009 American Pie Council championships held in April in Orlando, Fla.     The Pie Bar, which is a slice of the company’s handmade key lime pie dipped in chocolate and served on a stick, won in the Super Gourmet category for commercial bakers.   Last year, the Big Pine Key, Fla.-based pie producer won four blue ribbons.   It’s primary offering, Key Lime Pie, is made with 100% real key lime juice and sweetened condensed milk, ladled into a graham cracker crust and then topped with non-dairy whipped cream. Additionally, they are eggless, trans-fat free and can be thawed and refrozen multiple times. Some 31 producers from across the nation entered more than 500 pies in the commercial category judged during the three-day event.   For a full listing of this year’s winners, CLICK HERE.  Or go to www.piecouncil.org.
