With more and more families eating dinner at home and looking for simple, healthy mealtime options, the Grain Foods Foundation is asking consumers to make one night a week Sandwich Night.

While Americans eat approximately 300 million sandwiches daily and nearly half of them are consumed at lunch, only a quarter are eaten at dinner. With more and more families eating dinner at home and looking for simple, healthy mealtime options, the Grain Foods Foundation, based in Ridgway, Colo., is asking consumers to make one night a week Sandwich Night.

The Grain Foods Foundation (GFF), together with Sandwich Night spokespersons Jamie and Bobby Deen, hosts of the Food Network’s “Road Tasted” and sons of Paula Deen, kicked off Sandwich Night in late September with a media event in New York City.

Jamie and Bobby discussed why sandwiches are a great dinner option (they’re affordable, healthy and the whole family loves them) and gave attendees tips for making their own Sandwich Night extra special.

To complement the Sandwich Night campaign, GFF created an Endless Sandwich recipe database at www.gowiththegrain.org, where consumers can download sandwich recipes and add their own. The Deen brothers also contributed a few of their own tasty favorites, such as the Deen Brother’s Crunchy Super Kid’s Sandwich, the Deen Brother’s Grilled Bacon Pimento Cheese Sandwich and the Deen Brother’s Perfect Chicken Sandwich.

GFF also hosted a Sandwich Night event at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. The Deen brothers were a part of the fun again, performing a cooking demonstration of their exclusive Sandwich Night recipes. As anticipated, we had a great consumer turnout.
