The issue of food safety, food security and quality assurance will be the main topic of conversation as 1,400 food processing, retail, foodservice, academic, military and government professionals attend the 13th Annual Food Safety Summit, Apr. 19-21 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The Food Safety Summit is a sister publication of Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery.
A ServSafe training and certification program will be offered on Apr. 18 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Apr. 19 from 8 a.m.–Noon. This session will focus on the causes of foodborne illnesses and how to minimize their risk, the principles of food safety, how to establish systems for safe receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, holding, serving, cooling and reheating and how to build cleaning, sanitizing and pest control systems.
Four half-day workshops. On Apr. 19, from 1-5 p.m., speakers will provide in-depth analysis on the following topics: “HACCP is Not a Four-Letter Word”; “Training for Results”; “Effective Risk Communication to Secure Food Safety Resources”; and “The Three Pillars of Successful Food Liability Program: Prevention, Response and Resolution.”
Show floor highlights. The exhibit floor will open with a welcome reception on Apr. 19 from 5-8 p.m. Several leading industry companies, including ECOLAB, IFS Food, DeltaTrak, Siemens Security Solutions, Bureau Veritas Certification NA, Romer Labels, Alchemy Systems, New Leaf Food Safety Solutions, Eurofins Scientific, Ingersoll Rand and LUBRIPLATE LUBRICANTS will be on the exhibit floor, and will offer education sessions in the vendor theaters. The Food Safety Summit gold sponsor is Abbott Nutrition; silver sponsor is Siemens Industry and bronze sponsor is Covance Laboratories.
Featured keynote presenter, David Gregory, host of NBC’s Meet the Press, will deliver the keynote address on Apr. 20 at 9:30 a.m. In addition to his Meet the Press responsibilities, Gregory is a regular contributor for Today.
Awards programs–During the opening day keynote presentation, NSF International will present the 2011 Food Safety Leadership Awards. The evening of Apr. 20, the 2011 Food Quality Awards presentation and reception will take place, sponsored by DuPont Qualicon.
