Otis Spunkmeyer Merges with Fresh Start's Pennant and Sweet Life Units

Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc. and Fresh Start Bakeries (FSB) jointly announce the combination of FSB’s Pennant Foods and Sweet Life business units with Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc.

Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc., San Leandro, Calif., and Fresh Start Bakeries (FSB) are combining FSB’s Pennant Foods and Sweet Life business units with Otis Spunkmeyer, Inc.

“The Otis/Pennant/Sweet Life combination represents a tremendous opportunity to enhance product offerings and service levels to our customers,” says John Schiavo, president and CEO of Otis Spunkmeyer.

“The similarities of these businesses are strategically compelling,” adds Craig Olson, Los Angeles-based Fresh Start’s president and CEO, who will remain at the head of FSB’s North American and global bakery businesses.

Schiavo says the vision for the combination is to “leverage the best of the combined relationships, products, capabilities and people to create a more competitive enterprise and a strong platform for growth.”

Otis Spunkmeyer is recognized with being the No. 1-selling cookie dough in foodservice and has a leading position in the retail muffin category. Pennant and Sweet Life maintain solid positions as providers of quality frozen bread dough and specialty bakery products to leading restaurant chains as well as the retail and foodservice channels. Fresh Start Bakeries is a premier supplier of buns, rolls, English muffins and other bakery products to the quick-service restaurant, in-store bakery and foodservice channels.
