The Long Co. names Bill Zimmerman, a 45-year veteran of the baking industry, president, effective Sept. 1. Meanwhile, Duane Bull moves up to director of manufacturing services.

The Long Co., Chicago, consultants to the baking and food industries, announces that Bill Zimmerman, a 45-year veteran of the baking industry, it president, effective Sept. 1.

“We interviewed six candidates for the position. Bill's background and experience in the baking industry and his enthusiasm were the main factors in offering the position to Bill,” according to board chairman David A. Gardner, president and CEO of Alfred Nickles Bakery, Inc., Navarre, Ohio.

Zimmerman joins the company as a fourth-generation baker with experience in the North American baking industry, including production, operation and sales management. An active member of the American Society of Baking, Swedesboro, N.J., he most recently owned Zim’s Consulting LLC, an operational bakery management consulting company. He has also held positions at United States Bakery, Fleischmann’s Yeast, ADM Arkady Co. and SAF Yeast America.

Long Co. also promoted Duane Bull to director of manufacturing services, responsible for overseeing production consulting services and continuing to assist bakeries in quality control, formula review, new technology implementation, production and supervisory training programs. With the company since 2004, Bull has been in the baking industry for more than 45 years. Before coming to The Long Co., Bull was a bakery consultant for QBA.

Lonnie Kempf is a new manufacturing consultant and has more than 30 years of experience in the baking and allied industries. A graduate of the American Institute of Baking, Kempf held posts at Fresh Start Bakeries, Bimbo Bakeries USA and Alpha Baking Co.
