Promising bakers can apply with Gonnella and AIB for Gonnella’s ‘Rising to the Top’ scholarship, an $18,000 value that includes room and board for a qualified baker to attend and complete the AIB Science and Technology resident course in Manhattan, Kan.

Gonnella Frozen Products, LLC, a part of the Gonnella Baking Co. family, plans to invest in the future of the baking industry, 125 years after founder Alessandro Gonnella baked his first loaf of bread.

As part of a year-long celebration in honor of Gonnella’s 125th anniversary, the Chicago-based family owned and operated company is offering its “Rising to the Top” scholarship. This is an $18,000 value, which includes a tuition scholarship plus room and board for one qualified baker to attend and complete an American Institute of Baking (AIB) Science and Technology Resident Course in Manhattan, Kan., next year.

“After 125 years of building our business, we want to give back to the baking industry, which has given Gonnella so much over the years,” says Meg McDonnell, Gonnella’s vice president of sales.

AIB’s 16-week program provides students with nearly 600 hours of coursework in subjects ranging from bread and roll production to production/operations management. The school’s program and instructors are known for adapting to the latest technology, techniques and equipment used by real world bakers.

“We hope aspiring bakers who share our commitment to quality apply for this great opportunity to advance their baking skills,” McDonnell adds.

Applications are due by Sept. 1, and the winner, to be selected by the AIB, will be announced by Gonnella and the AIB later this year.
