HARLAN

Cover Story
- Running Down A Dream
A quarter-billion dollars is a lot of dough, but Harlan Bakeries hopes to further grow that annual sales figure over the next few years. Once a bagel specialist, the Avon, Ind.-based bakery now offers a full line of products, including frozen pies, cakes and cookie dough. This month, members of the family-built business share some of their secrets to success in today’s competitive industry.
- Hitting The Sweet Spot
For 30 years, life was easy as pie at Kyger, a regional dessert producer in Indiana. After Harlan Bakeries purchased the company in 2000, that all changed. Harlan expanded its product offerings and grew the business so much that it recently had to open a 150,000-sq.-ft. bakery to keep up with demand.
- Bagels By The Millions
There are a “hole” lot of bagels being produced at Harlan Bakeries’ Avon, Ind., plant. We take you inside the state-of-the-art facility, where the right software is as important as the softness of the dough
