Kraft Foods, Northfield, Ill., says it’s recalling 3,000 cases of Planters Cocktail peanuts, “just to be on the safe side.” The 12-oz. canisters of nuts may have been exposed to water not cleared for use in food during production, reports say. Stores and consumers should look for canisters of peanuts processed in Suffolk, Va., with the UPC code of 2900007212. The canisters have expiration dates of Jan 9, 2014.

Consumers can find the code date on the bottom of the canister. No other code dates or any other Planters products are being recalled. No illnesses have been reported or complaints related to the product. Approximately 3,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped to retail customers across the United States and Puerto Rico. The affected products were not distributed in Canada.

Consumers who have purchased the affected code dated product shouldn’t eat them. They can return them to the store of purchase for an exchange or full refund.
