Mario Turano could never have imagined his business, Turano Baking Co., and its variety of premium breads produced today. The bakery now employs more than 750 individuals and has several production facilities that are constantly expanding.

Effective Jan. 1, third-generation family member Joseph Mariano Turano was appointed president. He has a degree from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. Under his previous role in operations, Joe oversaw all plant manufacturing. He led the bakery’s startup of its Southeast operations, which are functioning at some of the highest efficiencies within the entire company.

Similar to previous transitions, the third generation of Turano family, which has worked with the bakery for several years, has helped the company grow and matured professionally together, says Giancarlo Turano, executive vice president. “We are confident that our next generation of leaders will provide consistent guidance, powerful passion and enduring vision—attributes that we ourselves have strived for, while guiding our company into the uniquely innovative position of leadership we hold in our industry today,” he says.

“The three of us [Ron Turano, chairman; Umberto (Tony) Turano, president; and Giancarlo Turano] will carry on as co-chairmen of the board of directors and will always be available to assist, advise and provide insight from the past 50 years in this business. We are confident that with the foundation built, the motivation to continue growing and the teams we nurture daily, the next-generation leaders are well-equipped to guide this organization through continued prosperity together with you, our Turano Baking family.”
