Genetically modified foods, or GMOs, continue to raise great concerns in food safety. If a food product has been genetically engineered, should consumers have the right to know? Many protestors gathered last week at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Food Safety, asking the agency to change its policies so that when consumers look at foods sold in grocery stores, they’ll know what they're buying.

In a statement, the FDA said that currently, food manufacturers may indicate through voluntary labeling whether foods have or have not been developed through genetic engineering, provided such labeling is truthful and not misleading.
