Donald Shaffer, 87, a long-time member of the baking industry, passed away Friday, April 12. His company, Shaffer Manufacturing Corp., which he started up in 1986, offers an extensive and innovative line of horizontal mixers. The company was purchased in 2007 by Bundy Baking Solutions.

Shaffer had a long history in mixer manufacturing, dating back to the 1960s when BEW mixers were constructed under his experienced hand. The Shaffer family then set out to develop and manufacture its own designs in the 1980s and introduced the open frame mixer in 1990.

The company changed ownership from the Shaffer family a couple times before being acquired by the Bundy family. The company has since relocated to Urbana, Ohio, where it shares production facilities with RTB and is in close proximity to the Bundy corporate headquarters and the American Pan production facility.
