Hostess Brands, LLC, now owned by private equity groups Apollo Global Management and Metropolis & Co., is gearing up to bring Twinkies, Ho Hos and other well-known Hostess snack cakes back to retailers’ shelves this summer.

The company recently announced that it is reopening bakeries in Columbus, Ga.; Indianapolis; Schiller Park, Ill.; and Emporia, Kan., and may open a fifth in Los Angeles. It has already begun accepting job applications at some sites and expects to begin hiring in May.

A Wall Street Journal report cites Hostess CEO C. Dean Metropoulous as saying that he plans to inject $60 million in capital investments into the plants and hopes to hire at least 1,500 workers between now and September.

Apollo Global Management and Metropolis & Co. purchased the Hostess and Dolly Madison lines as well as five plants from Irving, Texas-based Hostess Brands last month for $410 million.
