The Tortilla Industry Association (TIA) reports that preliminary counts indicate that its 2013 TIA Technical Seminar set a new attendance record, surpassing attendance at the 2010 TIA Tech Seminar, which was co-located with the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE). This year’s event was held Oct. 5-6 and also co-located with IBIE at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.

According to TIA, evaluation forms collected at the end of the event revealed that seminar attendees rated all sessions between “very good” and “excellent.” Attendees also offered plenty of positive feedback on the event, which featured Richard Junge of The McDonald’s Corp. as the keynote speaker. Junge, who works in menu food innovation at the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company, shared his strategy for tortillas and healthy wraps.

TIA’s executive director, Jim Kabbani, meanwhile, shared with attendees the latest statistics on the state of the tortilla market. This data is available for free to TIA members. In addition, select speaker presentation transcripts will be posted on TIA’s website (www.tortilla-info.com), pending approval.

The organization is now seeking location suggestions for the 2014 TIA Tech Seminar, which will be held in October or early November 2014. TIA invites people to email possible locations to Kabbani at jkabbani@tortilla-info.com.
