FDA extends FSMA comment deadline

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended the comment period for two proposed rules: “Foreign Supplier Verification Programs for Importers of Food for Human and Animals” and “Accreditation of Third-Party Auditors/Certification Bodies to Conduct Food Safety Audits and to Issue Certifications.”

The rules are two of several by the FDA under the authority of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The new deadline for submission of comments on both rules is Jan. 27, 2014. The previous deadline was Nov. 23.

The Independent Bakers Association (IBA) is drafting comments for both rules and encourages industry members to share their suggestions, thoughts or concerns. The IBA’s email address is independentbaker@yahoo.com; its phone and fax numbers are, respectively, 202-333-8190 and 202-337-3809.
