Jim Apple, Butter-Krust Bakery, and Bill Zimmerman, The Long Company

During The Long Company’s annual shareholders’ meeting during the American Bakers Association (ABA) Convention, held March 16-19 at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Chicago-based cooperative recognized Butter-Krust Baking Co., Sunbury, Pa.; Schwebel Baking Co., Hebron, Ohio; Klosterman Baking Co., Morristown, Ind.; and Butter-Krust Baking Co., Northumberland, Pa. in its annual bread and bun competition. Butter-Krust is owned by owned by Bimbo Bakeries USA, Horsham, Pa.

Butter-Krust Bakery in Sunbury took the Holsum Silver Cup for Best Holsum Brand White Bread. The bakery can display the Silver Cup logo on its Holsum packaging for the next 12 months. Jim Apple, president of Butter-Krust Bakery (pictured, left), accepted the award from Bill Zimmerman Sr., president of The Long Company (pictured, right).

Schwebel Baking’s Hebron plant and Klosterman Baking’s Morristown plant tied for first place in the annual Gold Cup for Best Buns from a member of the cooperative.

In a very close contest, Butter-Krust-BBU won the Best in Bread winner.

The competition is open to all bakeries that submit enough samples for consideration, regardless of the products’ labels.
