Lightweight belt

Ashworth Bros. Inc. expands it belt line with the addition of the Omni-Flex 3 x 1. The belt features 3x1-in. openings suitable for conveying pans, trays and larger products in spiral cooling, freezing and general conveyance applications. According to the company, the size of the openings enabled it to reduce the overall belt weight by 35% without making any additional changes to the Omni-Flex design. The belt is available in widths up to 48 in., with wider widths available after a system review. The company says no sprocket changes or transfer modifications are required when replacing an existing Omni-Flex belt with the new Omni-Flex 3 x 1 belt.

Dessert moulds

Silikomart Professional’s nonstick, flexible Multiflex 3D moulds are made in Italy from food-safe, 100% platonic silicone. The line comprises MUL3D1–28 A + B, which can be used to create spheres (28-mm diameter) to make ice pops, baked cake pops, spherical semi-freddos and sugar paste or isomalt lollipops; MUL3D1–58 A+B, which has a flat end to create dish-stable spheres (58 mm diameter); and MUL3D1–48 A+B, which is designed for spheres of 48 mm diameter. Toray Plastics (America) Inc. introduces Torayfan CBS2 film, an environment-conscious, transparent, high-oxygen- and moisture-barrier BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film, designed for use as the inside sealant web of packaging for bakery items, crisp salty snacks, cookies, crackers, granola, confections and fruit and nut mixes. Consumer packaged goods companies and converters can now create value-added, transparent, PVdC-free laminations that provide an excellent oxygen and moisture barrier. The versatile, heat-sealable CBS2 BOPP film also offers end users an alternative to coated OPP (orientated polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) films. In addition, because it’s available in 70 and 80 gauge, CBS2 film presents a down-gauged alternative to thicker OPP films.

Salmonella test kit

3M’s Molecular Detection Assay Salmonella test kit receives an extension of the current NF Validation certificate from AFNOR Certification. The extension means the kit, which helps food processors and other parties detect Salmonella, and consequently prevent salmonellosis, is now validated by the international organization for all human foods and environmental samples. In a related development, the Salmonella assay’s most recent AOAC International Performance Tested Method (PTM) matrix extension and modification was accepted by AOAC as a First Action Official Method of Analysis (OMA method number 2013.09).
