perkinsCoextruded snack die

A new 16-stream die developed by Baker Perkins increases the output capability of the company’s coextrusion systems for snacks. The die, previously with a maximum of 12 streams, is a key part of Baker Perkins’ CoEx Master Systems, which produces snacks with a cereal exterior and filled interior. Exterior forms include standard square shapes; pillows in novel patterns such as chevrons, waves and trapeziums; tubes; bars; and wafers, in sizes ranging from bite-size to sticks. Fillings can be virtually any color or flavor, according to the company.

Volume booster accessory

Siemens Industry Inc.  introduces an Integral Volume Booster accessory for the Sipart PS2 electro-pneumatic valve positioner, designed for pneumatic actuators that require high flow for fast stroking times. The booster reproduces pneumatic signals in a 1:1 ratio for applications requiring increased flow capacity, while maintaining small-step accuracy and reducing piping requirements. It couples with the Sipart PS2 valve positioner and directs a high-volume air supply to the actuator, which eliminates the complex piping and additional fittings required with external volume booster devices.

delkorCase packers

Delkor Systems debuted the HSP-400 high-speed and MSP-200 mid-speed case packers at PACK EXPO International. The units are designed to package standup pouches in a variety of shelf-ready packing (SRP) formats and standard interleaved shippers. The HSP-400 (shown) complements European high-speed, standup pouch fillers (300 pouches per 60 cases per minute) and incorporates Rockwell Automation’s iTRAK linear servo technology. At speeds of 150 pouches per 30 cases per minute, the MSP-200 accommodates a majority of the pouch fillers currently available. A vision-based Delta robot and a high-payload, long-stroke Fanuc M-710iC eliminate the need for traditional collation.

rossStatic mixers

Ross LPD and LLPD static mixers from Charles Ross & Son Co.  promote composition and temperature uniformity by increasing turbulence, while keeping pressure loss low. The LPD static mixer consists of a series of baffles or “elements,” discriminately positioned in series. Each element includes a pair of semielliptical plates set at 90 degree to each other. The next element is rotated 90 degree about the central axis, with respect to the previous baffle set and so on. The LLPD Model, with plates oriented 120 degree relative to each other, is designed for even lower pressure drops. As fluid moves through each LPD or LLPD element, flow is continuously split into layers and rotated in alternating clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Small LPD/LLPD mixers (1 to 2.5 inches in diameter) are welded to a central rod, while larger elements (from 3 to 48 inches in diameter) are welded to four outside support rods for maximum rigidity and stability.
