The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) issues the first edition of its Food Safety Auditor Competencies on its website. Available for download, the framework is the culmination of three years of work by the multidisciplinary GFSI Auditor Competence Working Group, mandated to define generic food-safety auditor competencies underpinning GFSI benchmarked schemes, and the mechanisms by which they can be assessed and verified.
The emphasis on food safety has been constantly shifting and evolving. Traceability was an initial focus; then came the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) practices, which impacted manufacturing. More recently, the Global Food Initiative was created to improve food safety supply chain management.
The GFSI Focus Day was initiated to address those Frequently Asked Questions about the initiative and its activities around the world.
