Lallemand Inc. has completed the acquisition of Lake States Yeast Division from the Wausau Paper Group.

Rhinelander, Wis.-based Lake States Yeast, a producer of inactivated torula yeast, will operate as a separate unit within Lallemand, but its product portfolio will be integrated in the Lallemand Bio-Ingredients division, which makes inactive yeasts and yeast extracts produced in Montreal, Canada; Salutaguse, Estonia; and Grenaa, Denmark.

Lallemand Bio-Ingredients was created as a division of Montrael-based Lallemand Inc. to produce value-added products to complement the growing need in savory and nutritional markets. Today, Lallamand says, the term “inactive yeast” is synonymous with nutrition.

The company also offers a line of inactive yeast products including yeast extracts, Engevita premium inactive yeast, vitamin-enriched nutritional yeasts and inactive brewers yeast as well as Fermentation Nutrition Ingredients.

Lallemand Inc. is a privately held Canadian company specializing in the research, development, production, marketing and distribution of yeast and bacteria. Lallemand has some 2,200 employees located in more than 30 countries on all continents.
