A Look Back

SFA’s Popular QA Course: Then and Now
11 Years Ago… Dr. Wilbur Gould (right photo), poses in 1994 with his wife Jesse, after he received a plaque commemorating 20 years of teaching SFA’s Quality Assurance Short Course. In the photo below, Les Mapp (left), former chairman of the board of Mike-sell’s Potato Chip Co., greets Benjamin Borda, plant manager, Productos Chipy S.A., Lima, Peru. Borda and other students toured the Mike-sell’s plant in Dayton as part of the 1994 SFA Quality Assurance Short Course. Both Dr. Gould and Les Mapp passed away earlier this year (see The Snack Report, May 6 and April 8, 2005), but their contributions to our association and industry live on in the TQM Course named for Dr. Gould and the SFA Top Management Seminar, founded by Les Mapp when he was SFA Chairman.
The SFA Quality Assurance Short Course took a hiatus for several years beginning in the late 1990s but is returning this year in a new, updated format. SFA has partnered with the Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) and Ohio State University’s Department of Food Science to offer the SFA Wilbur A. Gould Total Quality Management for the Snack Food Industry Short Course, September 12-15. Contact Christopher Melchert at 1-703-836-4500 ext. 211 or cmelchert@sfa.org for information on registration.
