Confession: one of my favorite things to do is watch my favorite TV shows and bring some chips or another snack onto the couch with me. I try not to "mindlessly eat," but I'll portion out some snacks (yesterday was peanut M&Ms) and enjoy them while I watch a show or two, or a movie.

86 percent of Americans say they are likely to be snacking during the season premiere of their favorite show, according to a recent survey by G.H. Cretors Popped Corn. To take a step further, more than one-third of people say that certain snacks pair better with different television shows—definitely an interesting proposition.

Here’s a quick look at some of the snacks Americans said pair best with their favorite TV series:

  • Popcorn: Rated the top snack to pair with fantasy series like HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Westworld.” Popcorn also wins the vote for fans of the quick-witted HBO political satire, “Veep.”
  • Ice cream: Pairs best with NBC’s emotionally rich series “This Is Us.”
  • Chips: Favorite among fans of football games and reality TV series like ABC’s “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette” and “Dancing with the Stars”; It’s also the top choice for fans of Olivia Pope and ABC’s “Scandal.”

Interestingly enough, women snack on popcorn when catching up on binge-worthy Netflix series such as “Stranger Things” and “Orange Is the New Black,” but men reach for chips most often.

G.H. Cretors compiled the data into a fun infographic which you can see below.

It's curious to think about how people pair their snacks with certain TV shows. I would think fans of "Scandal" would pair wine with it, since that's Olivia Pope's drink of choice; though the study doesn't mention beverages, it does say that "Scandal" fans pair chips with it. Ice cream does make sense for "This is Us," because it's an emotional show and its viewers probably want "comfort food" to go with it.

What are your favorite snacks, and with which specific TV shows do you pair them?
