Chicago-based Fannie May has stepped closer toward the online meal-kit market with its new Apron & Spoon collection.

Janet Prisk, Fannie May v.p. of merchandising, said the company began developing the collection last fall to offer “alternative culinary experiences” to its consumers. She added the recipes were tested to ensure there is a strong connection between the Fannie May brand and at-home experiences.

One way to create that link is by recreating the unmistakable aroma of Fannie May stores in consumers’ homes, Prisk says.

“The recipes we have crafted reinforce the sensory delights that Fannie May is known for in your own kitchen,” she says.

The collection, available online and in retail stores, includes flavored Arabica coffee, hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, and hot chocolate spoons, which are spoons covered with chocolate that melts when used to stir a cup of cocoa.
  • Pixie Caramel Coffee, 6 oz., $9.95
  • Vanilla Buttercream Coffee, 6 oz., $9.95
  • Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee, 6 oz., $9.95
  • Decadent Hot Cocoa, 8 oz., $9.95
  • Hot Chocolate Spoon, $3.95
  • Hot Chocolate Spoon with Marshmallows, $3.95
  • Cinnamon Marshmallows, 10-count, $9.95
  • Vanilla Marshmallows, 10-count, $9.95
  • Assorted Love and Chocolate Mug, 5 oz., $14.95
  • Assorted Chocolate Break Mug, 5 oz., 12.95
The collection also offers seasonal bake kits. For fall, Fannie May released a Pumpkin Chocolate Bread mix, which comes with a ceramic loaf pan. The Cookies for Santa sugar cookie mix, along with a serving tray, will be available later this year.

“With the rise in convenient dishes and products that provide consumers with at-home cooking experiences, Apron & Spoon provides quality products that are convenient and create a shared experience,” Prisk says.

Fannie May isn’t the only chocolate company to tap into the $1.5-billion meal-kit market. Last month, The Hershey Co. announced a new partnership with Chef’d, an online meal-kit marketplace. Dessert recipes from Hershey’s Kitchens and Scharffen Berger, a premium Hershey subsidiary, are now available online.
