Fairtrade program for West African cocoa cooperatives seeing positive results, report reveals
Fairtrade West Africa Cocoa Programme launched in 2016.
Fairtrade International’s West Africa Programme is training more cocoa farmers, generating greater understanding of Fairtrade Standards and selling more Fairtrade cocoa after intensive training, according to a new report the organization released this week.
Launched in 2016, the Fairtrade West Africa Cocoa Programme aims to strengthen Fairtrade cocoa cooperatives as membership organizations and business partners, leading to long-term trading relationships and living incomes for farmers. The inaugural report describes findings based on Fairtrade audit data, as well as cooperative management and farmer member surveys conducted in 2018 and 2019.
