SmartSweets launches low-sugar Sourmelon Bites
Bites are a plant-based take on traditional watermelon slices.
SmartSweets has launched Sourmelon Bites, a low-sugar, plant-based take on the classic gummy watermelon slices.
Sourmelon Bites contain 100 calories and 3 grams of sugar per 1.8-oz. bag, roughly 91 percent less than traditional watermelon slices. They’re free of sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners and added sugar. Sourmelon Bites are also gluten-free and non-GMO.
SmartSweets said fans had been requesting that the company put its spin on traditional watermelon slices. Tara Bosch, founder and CEO of SmartSweets, recently told Candy Industry the brand’s consumers frequently guide product launches.
“Our consumers — who we call our tribe — our kick-sugar community of over 563,000 is our north star when it comes to product development,” she said. “Our community was asking for plant-based, and so we made sure we delivered.”
The launch of Sourmelon Bites — the company’s seventh innovation — follows the introduction of Sweet Chews in April. Each 1.6-oz. bag of Sweet Chews contains 10 grams of fiber and 3 grams of sugar. The individually-wrapped chews come in three flavors: Mango, Strawberry, and Watermelon.
