The manufacturing company Duyvis Wiener B.V. has received the “Royal” designation.

To receive the honor, a company must be at least 100 years old and employ at least 100 people. It also have to go through a strenuous application process and then be chosen by the Queen.

The designation is only rarely conferred by the Queen and is given to companies that are leaders in their field. It entitles the recipients to display the insignia of the royal crown in combination with company’s logo on things like stationery or the company flag.

“This is a unique day and the ultimate crown on the work of everybody here and for those who have supported us in the past,” Managing Director Mirjam van Dijk said during the ceremony at the company’s factory in Kood aan de Zaan. “It is a day that would have brought a great smile on the face of a young engineer who, 125 years ago decided to pursue his dreams and made it happen.”

Duyvis Wiener B.V. was started 125 years ago by Pieter Mattheus Duyvis, a mechanical engineer. It specializes in producing and installing processing machines for the cocoa and chocolate industry.
