Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski accepts a 5-lb. SweetWorks chocolate bar from SweetWorks employee Mira Szramel.

A SweetWorks employee recently got the chance to meet with the President of Poland and extend him a pretty “sweet” gift.

Mira Szramel, housekeeping and sanitation supervisor at SweetWorks, Inc., had the pleasure of meeting Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski at the Polish Consulate in Manhattan last Friday.

During her conversation with President Komorowski she presented him with a 5-lb. gourmet chocolate bar from SweetWorks Niagara Chocolates.

“President Komorowski and his wife, Anna, first asked me if the enormous SweetWorks Niagara Chocolate bar was real, and when learning that it was, then they lit up with excitement,” Szramel says. “I think during a long day of meetings and events, such a simple but sweet gift was appreciated!”

Szramel has worked at SweetWorks’ Niagara Chocolates facility in Buffalo for 25 years.

She was invited to the Polish Consulate in Manhattan because of her extensive service in the Polish community — she is the principal of Buffalo’s Polish Saturday School, chairperson for the Buffalo Pulaski Parade, a member of the Polish-American Congress and is the liaison between the Polish community of Western New York and the Polish consulate.

During her last visit, the Council General invited Szramel to meet the president of Poland.  Szramel had previously received the Gold Merit Cross from Polish President Lech Kaczynski for all of her work with the Polish Consulate and the community in the United States.

“We are very proud of Mira Szramel,” says Philip Terranova, SweetWorks’ president. “While she is dedicated, hardworking and integral to SweetWorks, Mira has simultaneously built and maintained an enormous commitment to the Polish community. Mira’s ability to be a significant contributor both in her work and personal environments makes her a role model for all to emulate.”

SweetWorks, Inc. is a manufacturer of premium gourmet confections marketed under the brand names Niagara Chocolates, Oak Leaf, Ovation, Sixlets and Celebration by SweetWorks.

Founded in 1956, SweetWorks is headquartered in Buffalo, N.Y. and operates Oak Leaf Confections, in Toronto, Canada.
