Candy Planning: Christmas & Halloween show highlights an array of new holiday-themed treats

Asian snacks and candies aren’t easy to find in the United States. Outside of Chinatown or Asian supermarkets like H Mart, they’re a rare commodity. Considering they’re foreign imports, it’s not too surprising that they’re hard to find. But next to the popularity of European confections, you have to wonder why Asian candies have yet to become mainstream.

Diversity is important — that’s a statement applicable both to people and to the food we eat. It’s part of what makes nuts and fruits ideal ingredients to add to confections.

Once the mystery and magic of chocolate gets into your blood, it’s hard to escape from it. Just ask Angela and David Emerson who run Amarah’s Chocolate Co., a candy/gift store at the Taft Corners Shopping Center in Williston, Vt.

“The first day beta launched, we saw someone send from California to Arizona, and then the person in Arizona turned around and sent one to Massachusetts, and then the person in Massachusetts sent one to Florida, and they hadn’t even received the gift,” says Elisabeth Vezzani. “Right from the beginning, I just felt really confident that if we gave it our all we had something.”

Product of the Year USA, the largest consumer-voted award for product innovations, has announced its 2016 award winners, and three candy and snack companies are among the winners.

Abdallah Candies has been named an honoree of Finance & Commerce's 2016 Progress Minnesota awards.
