Allured is flanked by Judy Cooley, principal scientist at The Hershey Co., and Patrick Hurley, consulting director – international sales, Spangler Candy Co.  Huzinec, Cooley and Hurley were all past recipients of the Stroud Jordan award.

Last night, during the American Association of Candy Technologists’ (AACT) National Technical Conference being held at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort in Lincolnshire, Ill., the organization presented Michael Allured, publisher and editor-in-chief of Manufacturing Confectioner magazine, the 2014 Stroud Jordan award.

Bob Huzinec, principal scientist — product development at The Hershey Co. and last year’s Stroud Jordan recipient, presented Allured with the medallion featuring the image of Stroud Jordan, a renowned confectionery scientist and co-founder of the AACT.

Each year since 1951, the AACT presents the award to someone in the industry who’s contributed significantly in the area of education, organization or research.

Since joining the family business in 1986, Allured has been actively involved in the confectionery industry. He served as assistant secretary to the AACT from 1998 to 2011 and has been its treasurer since then.

Allured has also been involved with the PMCA board and several of its committees as well as the Retail Confectioners International (RCI) board and many of its committees. He continues to be an active member of the World Cocoa Foundation, the National Confectioners Association and the Fine Chocolate Industry Association.

Most recently, Allured established the Allured Fund for Confectionery Education, honoring his father Allen Allured, also a past Stroud Jordan recipient. The fund supports individuals who would like to attend a confectionery educational event but are strapped financially to do so.

In addition to the Stroud Jordan award, Allured was honored by RCI with the Henry J. Borhofft award and by the American Wholesale Marketers Association (AWMA) with a leadership award.
