Blommer now helps more than 40,000 cocoa farmers

Blommer Chocolate can now boast that it’s helping to create a better life for more than 40,000 cocoa farmers.

The Chicago-based company recently reached the benchmark figure for its cocoa farmers sustainable sourcing program, Blommer says.

In addition, more than 1000,000 metric tons cocoa, including more than 10,000 metric tons of Rain Forest Alliance certified cocoa, has been sourced through the company’s sustainability program, which provides tools and training to increase yields and income while practicing sound environmental stewardship.

Worldwide, more than 90% of cocoa is grown on small family farmers and the Blommer programs educate the farmers to become stronger, more educated sellers to provide a better life for farmer’s families and to ensure the long-term sustainability of the coca industry.

Blommer president Peter Blommer says his company has a long history of supporting cocoa community sustainability, dating back to the 1950s, when founder Henry Blommer began what is now the World Cocoa Foundation.

“We are proud of the impact we’ve been able ot make on so many farmer’s live by training them on improving crop yield and quality and sustainability of the land for future cocoa crops,” he says.
