American Licorice Co. has announced plans to invest $10 million in the expansion of its La Porte, Ind. manufacturing facility.
The Bend, Ore.-based candy maker plans to equip and renovate its 285,000 square-foot facility. The expansion, which will include the installation of a licorice production line and the addition of a rail spur so the company can receive ingredients by rail, is expected to be completed by 2015.
Included in the price for Raisio, which operates Big Bear Confectionery in the UK, is a new capital investment of €2.3 million in fruit-licorice capability.
“From the moment she heard the idea, she fell in love with it,” he says. “She has got an incredible sweet tooth and her eyes lit up, like a little kid opening a Christmas present.”
The Lincolnton, N.C.-based company has recalled Lot A3057 of Lucky Country Aussie Style Soft Gourmet Black Licorice with Natural Ingredients from Costco and Smart & FInal stores in California, Arizona, and Utah.
Darrell Lea, known in the United States mainly for its soft-eating licorice, has brought in PPB Advisory to conduct an ongoing review of its business after growing concerns about its ability to meet ongoing financial obligations.
