A coalition of philanthropic partners and companies in the cocoa and chocolate industry have joined forces with Cote D’Ivoire to support its strategic objectives to combat child labor.
Chocolate offers an opportunity to indulge, but it also serves as a palette for flavor innovation and provides an entry point into where and how cocoa is grown, harvested and processed.
In the 2018/2019 Olam global cocoa supply chain, the companies identified 7,059 cases of child labor in the sustainability programs run with its branded partners.
The complexity of child labor means one intervention will never be enough – what is required is a broad range of preventative and remedial actions, both at the individual, community and national level.
