The American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) is awarding Katherine Marie Moy with the 2012-2013 John Kitt Memorial Scholarship.

The $5,000 scholarship goes to one college student who demonstrates an interest in candy via their research projects, work experience and formal study.

Moy is in her senior year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is on the Dean’s List. She has worked at her university as a lab assistant for the National Confectionery Association’s “Candy Course,” and has attended the AACT national meeting in Lincolnshire.

Moy will intern this summer at ConAgra Foods to increase her knowledge of chocolate and healthy snack foods.

John Kitt, who passed away in August 2009, was a confectionery researcher and patents-holder who spent 43 years in the candy industry working for companies such as for Knechtel Laboratories, Standard Brands, Nabisco Brands and Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. He also was involved in various industry technical and educational committees, promoting research and education.

The AACT is the professional group comprised of technologists, operations personnel, educators, students, business staff, and others dedicated to the advancement of the confectionery industry.
