New York City’s Chocolat Moderne is lending its support to Ukraine by donating 10 percent of proceeds from The Pursuit of Happiness Ukrainian Easter Egg Collection to the World Central Kitchen, a relief fund started by Chef Jose Andres.

The World Central Kitchen has served one million meals to families across Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova and Hungary.

The Pursuit of Happiness is a pastel rendition of Ukrainian designs that reflect the traditional art of Ukrainian Easter. The designs are applied to petite dark chocolate bonbons. The award-winning collection has been a highlight of the Chocolat Moderne Easter Egg offerings since 2005.

Although it was originally created as part of the company’s seasonal collection, Chocolat Moderne will continue to sell The Pursuit of Happiness and donate to the World Central Kitchen beyond Easter. The 8-piece set is $17.95, and the 24-piece set is $49.

Joan Coukos, founder and CEO of Chocolat Moderne, met Chef Jose Andres when he presented Chocolat Moderne with the 2012 sofi Award for Outstanding Chocolate from the Specialty Food Association. She has watched his organization grow and contribute relief throughout many worldwide disasters.

“The impact and contribution of chefs like Chef Jose Andres, Chef Marc Murphy and others who are generously donating their time with World Central Kitchen are an inspiration,” Coukos said. “By donating a portion of our sales from the Pursuit of Happiness, we hope to add to their efforts, keep Ukraine top of mind, and perhaps inspire others to donate.”

The Ukrainian Collection contains six gluten-free flavors:

  • Anise in Wonderland: Caramel infused with anise seed
  • Berry Bohemian: Caramel with strawberry and raspberry puree
  • Cocoa Cabana: Milk chocolate ganache with roasted cocoa nibs
  • Coconut Coast: White ganache with coconut milk and toasted coconut
  • Peanut Pizzazz: Crunchy salted peanut and milk chocolate praline
  • Macadamia Republic: Crunchy macadamia praline with white chocolate

Chocolat Moderne Easter Eggs blend all-natural ingredients and the finest chocolate couvertures from Valrhona. Carefully conceived packaging is the elegant finishing touch to all Chocolat Moderne creations.

In addition to The Pursuit of Happiness, Chocolat Moderne offers five other Easter Egg Collections available in dark and milk chocolate: the Abstract Collection, with eggs that are speckled with three accent colors; The Fauvergé Collection, in the style of Fauvism; a Milk Chocolate Collection of hand-painted eggs in milk chocolate; a Greek Collection, available through Greek Orthodox Easter with fillings inspired by Greek delicacies; and the Vegan Collection.

The five collections can be purchased until April 29 through chocolatmoderne.com or at 27 West 20th St. in New York City. Prices include $12 for one egg, $33 for three eggs, and $65 for a six-piece gift box.
