Budding confectionery technologists have a chance to earn $5,000 toward their studies.

The American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) is offering a $5,000 scholarship award for one lucky recipient to use for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Current sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in food science, chemical science or biological science with a 3.0 GPA at an accredited four-year college or university are eligible to apply for the John Kitt Memorial Scholarship. Students must also have demonstrated interest in confectionery technology through research projects, work experience, formal study or other activities.

The application deadline is April 13, and the winner will be announced May 4. The scholarship winner will receive two payments of $2,500 per semester.

AACT is a professional group of technologists, operations personnel, educators, students, business staff and others dedicated to the advancement of the confectionery industry. It has a national chapter as well as chapters in California, Chicago, Milwaukee, New Jersey/New York, Pennsylvania and the Rocky Mountains.

The award is named after John Kitt, a confectionery researcher who spent 43 years in the industry.

Interested students can visit the AACT website for more information or to apply.
