See’s Candies resumes production, donates candy

See’s Candies has donated more than 100 tons of candy to hospitals, schools, food banks, missions and organizations like Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald Houses and the YMCA across the West Coast.

The century-old company said it made the donations with help from volunteers.

“In every case, we get pictures, notes, and phone calls from people who are joyful, sometimes in tears, and always thankful for what we have been able to do,” said Pat Egan, president and ceo of See’s Candies, in a statement on the company’s website.

See’s Candies suspended production at the end of March, but the company said production has resumed in a reconfigured way.

“Our production floors have fewer people making and packing our candy with care,” Egan said. “We have taken the past few weeks to review all of our operations and ensure we can work safely in all aspects of our business.”

Most of See’s Candies' retail stores are still closed, but the company is testing having a few stores open with minimal hours. Customers can pick up candy at a safe distance and employees will wear masks.

See’s Candies has also resumed taking orders through sees.com.

“Because we only make fresh product, and we have limited supplies, we ask for your patience as we ramp back up,” Egan said. “After not being able to support your Easter traditions, we want to be there for you for Mother’s Day, birthdays, cravings days, and every day in between.”
