Stephen Scully, v.p. of operations for Anthony-Thomas Candy Co., passed away at his home Dec. 17 after complications from COVID-19. He was 53.

Scully, of Hilliard, Ohio, was born Aug. 21, 1967 in Sidney, Ohio to Barbara (Goffena) and the late John Scully. He married Carla Zanetos Scully, Candy Industry contributor, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 7, 1996.

Scully served at Anthony-Thomas Candy for 22 years. Prior to that he worked at the Dannon Co. in Minster, Ohio, as an engineer.

Scully graduated from Sidney High School in 1986 and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, Columbus, and before that, Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.

In an obituary published in the Columbus Dispatch, Scully was described as proud of his Irish-American Catholic heritage, serving as a long-standing member of The Shamrock Club. For many years he marched in St. Patrick's Day Parades, both before marriage and then later with his boys.

Scully was also an avid Notre Dame fan and loved watching football with his family. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying everything outdoors, especially fly fishing and kayaking. He loved going to Ludington, Michigan, each year to camp and fish with his family. He enjoyed visiting our country's national parks from Hawaii to Yellowstone to Acadia.

Scully is survived by his wife and four children; his mother Barbara; three brothers, Joe (Janet) of Plymouth, Maine, Tom (Sue) of Troy, and Dan (Erica) Scully of Sidney; father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Carol Zanetos of Columbus; sister-in-law, Candi (Michael) Trifelos of Columbus; nephews, Brian (Vanessa) Scully, Eric (Tamara) Scully, Jordan Scully, Jake Scully, Brylan Scully, and Nicholas, Mark, and Alex Trifelos.

A burial mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Rd. (Upper Arlington) with Rev. Fr. M. Edmund Hussey as celebrant. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 West Fifth Ave., Columbus. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be sent via johnquint.com.
