Bryana Ganong takes over executive duties at Canada’s oldest chocolate company

David Ganong’s daughter becomes fifth generation to hold president and ceo title.

May 6, 2014

For four generations, a Ganong has overseen the growth and success of Ganong Bros. Ltd. The Canadian confectionery company ensured the tradition would continue by appointing Bryana Ganong as its future president and ceo.

Bryana becomes the fifth generation of the Ganong family to hold the position for this storied Canadian company that operates its only manufacturing facility in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. The move will take effect August 12 when David Ganong, Bryana’s father, will relinguish his position as president and ceo after serving a combined total of 33 years in those roles. He will assume the newly created position of Executive Vice Chair and will continue to provide active support and advice to the ceo and the management team.

“Bryana’s experience and expertise will help meet the continued growth and success for the Ganong and Sunkist brands that have made this company a household name, says Board Chair Hubert Saint-Onge. “Bryana’s proven record of leadership, strategy development, customer service, team building, financial and relationship management will continue to guide us through an ever-changing global environment, while ensuring the strong New Brunswick and Canadian roots that built this company are never far from our minds.”

Since joining Ganong on a full time basis in 1997, Bryana has worked in a variety of roles throughout the organization including R&D, product development, contract manufacturing, marketing and public relations. Her most recent role before this change was that of vice president of business development and brand marketing.

“I’m excited to assume this role as we continue to position our company for continued growth and expansion,” says Bryana. “Growing up in this business has given me a foundation of experience and values that I know will be extremely helpful as we continue to expand our markets, our reach and our product development. I look forward to working with our strong team, our customers and our board to continue our family tradition of providing quality products to our customers around the globe.

In a related move, Nick Ganong, Bryana’s brother and David’s son, also will take over new responsibilities as the company’s vice president of sales and business development. He will, however, continue to lead and guide the domestic sales team, the contract accounts group and contract sales.

Nick joined the Company in 2003 after completing his business degree and has worked in HR, production planning, plant floor management, supply chain management and most recently as vice president of sales for Canada. Established in 1873, Ganong has the distinction of being Canada’s oldest, independently family-owned and -operated candy company, manufacturing all its products in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Ganong has been a Canadian innovator of many chocolate and confectionery products for more than 140-years. From The Original Chicken Bones, Delecto boxed chocolates to Pal-o-Mine and Fruitful, consumers across Canada have developed a sense of ‘sweet nostalgia for Ganong products that continues to this day.
