Weather men cried, our president snuck a peak without wearing glasses, and millions celebrated in a solar kumbaya fashion with festivals and traffic nightmares. And there were some who thought about simply cowering underneath their desks until order was restored. 

ECRM hosted its annual Candy Planning: Everyday & Summer Seasonal event Aug. 13-17 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Fla., where new and previously attending manufacturers showcased more than 100 new, innovative products.

Mark Puch, ceo of Chicago-based Primrose Candy, died last Friday. He was 63 and is survived by his wife, Dawn (nee Castro) and children, Gia, Mark Jr. and Nina as well as his mother Lillian and brother, Jeff, and his wife, Mary.

Held at the conclusion of the group’s annual technical seminar — to be held October 2 - 4, at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald's Campus, Oak Brook, Ill. — the Iron Confectioner Competition features two teams of three members each tasked to create three different types of confections within one hour.

It’s hard to believe that this week — yesterday, to be exact — marks my one-year anniversary as a full employee of Candy Industry Magazine. And what a year it has been.
