Pepsi and Peeps have teamed up for the spring season to create a new soda called PEPSI x PEEPS, and Twitter has had some thoughts on the name.

“Peepsi” was among the Trending Topics on Thursday, March 25, as fans asked why the brands had not used the portmanteau to name the drink. “Peepsi” tweets continued to gain traction over the weekend.

One of the top tweets was from @kennykeil, reading:

“I’m just mad they aren’t calling it Peepsi.”

The post had 1,316 retweets, 375 quote tweets, and 9,653 likes.

Another from @britl reads:

“A seasonal marshmallow treat and the second best soda brand combine and they don’t call the flavour Peepsi?

Y’all messed up.”

The post had 208 retweets, 73 quote tweets and 1,983 likes.

The Pepsi Twitter account responded to the topic trending, with a tweet reading:

Us a month ago: David from Legal, we have a great name for this Peeps collab. It's...
David from Legal a month ago: I know what you're gonna say. No.
Us today: David, check Twitter.

In a media release, Pepsi and Peeps brands describes the soda as combining the “crisp, refreshing taste of Pepsi cola with the pillowy-soft and sweet Peeps Marshmallow flavor consumers love.”

It comes in an instantly recognizable Peeps-inspired design on 7.5-ounce Pepsi mini-can in bright yellow, pink and blue colors.

"The Peeps Brand always finds great joy in teaming up with partners to bring our beloved Marshmallow flavor to fans in new and exciting ways, which is why we're thrilled to collaborate with Pepsi on this limited-edition PEPSI x PEEPS beverage leading up to the Easter holiday," said Peeps Brand Manager Caitlin Servian.

Sadly, no matter what fans want to call the combination candy and soda treat, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to try it first-hand. The limited-edition flavor is only available to winners of the “HangingWithMyPEEPS sweepstakes.”

Fans can enter by submitting photos of themselves enjoying the spring  activities — in a safe, socially distant manner — with Peeps Marshmallow Chicks and Bunnies by tagging @PEPSI, #HangingWithMyPEEPS and #PepsiSweepstakes on Twitter and Instagram for the chance to win a limited-edition three-pack of PEPSI x PEEPS.

The #HangingWithMyPEEPS national sweepstakes kicked off on Thursday, March 25 and, in addition to the three-pack prizes, will award 10 grand prize winners with an epic collector's package of PEPSI x PEEPS.

To celebrate the limited-edition drop, Peeps and Pepsi are also collaborating to bring two of the most iconic moments in Pepsi TV ad history to life with Peeps dioramas, including the famous 1992 Pepsi commercial featuring Cindy Crawford. The recreation is featured in the photo belowPepsi X Peeps Cindy Crawford Commercial.

"After what has been a very difficult year, many consumers are looking for new things to smile about. So, to celebrate the start of springtime, Pepsi collaborated with Peeps to develop a limited batch of its first-ever marshmallow cola," said Todd Kaplan, v.p. marketing – Pepsi. "We know our consumers love our limited product drops, and we believe that PEPSI x PEEPS will deliver an iconic and delicious pairing that has the potential to become a fan favorite."

For more information about the sweepstakes, which ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on March 31, 2021 visit the contest website.
