When a package arrived in my office containing an Advent calendar from Divine Chocolate, I could not help but remember the Advent calendars I enjoyed as a kid. Like other children, I looked forward to opening the individual windows containing pieces of chocolates in different yuletide shapes, counting down the days until Christmas. Divine Chocolate’s Fair Trade Milk Chocolate Advent Calendar takes that tradition one step further with its packaging, which features colorful images of cocoa farmers, as illustrated by artist Stephen Waterhouse. I look forward to using my new Advent Calendar this December, especially knowing that its production helped benefit the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative in Ghana, which actually co-owns Divine Chocolate - a once novel concept that, much like Fair Trade cocoa production, is growing.
