John Hines Eagle, founder of John Eagle Candies in Columbus, Ohio since 1946, died Jan. 16, 2011 at his home. He was 86.

Eagle was a second-generation candy maker, who followed in the footsteps of his father George Eagle, owner of Eagle Candies, according to an article in the Columbus Dispatch.

John Eagle’s daugther Linda Bixby told the Columbus Dispatch that her father ran the company alongside his wife, Deloris, and retired a couple decades ago. 

His son Bob Eagle was then brought in to run the business. Bixby says her father enjoyed meeting people and was very hands-on. She adds that he knew the candy business inside and out and enjoying making personal contacts, according to the Columbus Dispatch. 

Eagle also was a veteran U.S Merchant Marine in World War II. He survived by his wife of 65 years, three children, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
