Runamok Maple, a Cambridge, Vt.-based maker of all-natural, organic maple syrup, has acquired the maple candy and butter operations of Battleboro, Vt.-based Bascom Maple Farms, the largest independent supplier of pure maple syrup, maple sugar and maple candy in the country.

Runamok will produce maple candy and butter on a contract basis for Bascom, as well as under Runamok’s new brand, True North Maple. True North will use production facilities at the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s Cotton Mill Building in Brattleboro but will operate as a separate entity.

“After working in the maple syrup business for over 10 years, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to diversify my knowledge of maple products and expand our business in an exciting, new direction,” says Eric Sorkin, co-founder of Runamok Maple and True North Maple. “Our team plans to build on the amazing foundation that Bascom Maple Farms has created and offer consumers a fresh, innovative approach to maple candy and maple butter.”

In addition to its own branded items, Runamok will produce maple products for six private label customers. The company also continues to seek private label and white label collaborations with sugar manufacturers.

The acquisition will allow Bruce Bascom, founder and owner of Bascom Family Farms, to focus on the company’s core business, says a press release from Runamok. Bascom’s company will continue to market items under its Coombs and Brown Family Farms brands and supply maple products to distributors, manufacturers and retailers.
