Organizers for the Candy Hall of Fame induction ceremony have canceled this year’s event and will recognize the Class of 2020 during the 50th anniversary event in 2021.

The NCSA (National Confectionery Sales Association) announced Monday it had been monitoring governmental guidelines and the comfort levels of visitors before deciding to cancel the event as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have concluded that gathering as a large group in October is not in the best interest of our honorees, their friends and families and our members,” the NCSA said.

The Candy Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of industry leaders from across the world. Each year, up to 12 inductees are selected from numerous nominations of candy brokers, sales personnel, manufacturers, retail buyers, wholesalers, industry suppliers, retail confectioners and others allied to the industry.

Candy Hall of Fame inductions take place at a black-tie annual banquet attended by hundreds of NCSA members, along with inductees’ families, friends and supporters.

Individuals who registered for the event will be contacted regarding refunds, and all hotel reservations made in conjunction with the event will be canceled.

Dates for the 2021 Candy Hall of Fame event in Tampa will be announced next month.

The Class of 2021 includes:

  • Michelle Frame, Victus Ars
  • Pam Gesford, The Hershey Co.
  • Forrest Mars Jr. (posthumous), Mars Wrigley Confectionery U.S.
  • Deb Grenon, My Favorite Company, Inc.
  • Barry Phillips, SpartanNash Co.
  • Kurt Rosenberg (posthumous), The Promotion in Motion Cos., Inc.
  • Alan Scharhon, Halfon Candy Co.
  • Mark Schlott, R.M. Palmer Co.
  • David Shaffer, Just Born, Inc.
  • Douglas Simons, Enstrom Candies, Inc.
  • Robert Taylor, Burdette Beckmann Inc.
