In recognition of Fairtrade Month, Hu is sharing highlights from its 2024 Fairtrade Impact Report, showcasing how the brand’s sourcing practices support farmers and cooperatives across global supply chains.
The report outlines progress in key areas:
- Gender equity in Indonesia: Through Hu’s Producer Development Initiative, coconut sugar cooperatives implemented a gender policy. Women now represent 48% of membership and are taking on leadership roles.
- Cooperative development in Sierra Leone: Hu partners with three cocoa producer cooperatives—Munafa, AGRI-Leone, and Strong Roots—supported through the West Africa Cocoa Program. Training focuses on child labor prevention, environmental standards, and governance.
- Fairtrade sourcing commitment: Hu sources cocoa, coconut sugar, cashews, vanilla, and quinoa as Fairtrade certified, using certified ingredients whenever available.
“Fairtrade Month is about honoring the farmers and workers at the heart of the global food system,” says a Hu spokesperson. “For Hu, that means putting humanity at the forefront—creating chocolate that tastes good and does good.”
