Smarties expands line with Squashies Sours candy
The confection is gluten-free and made without artificial dyes or flavors.

Smarties Candy Company is launching Smarties Squashies Sours Cherry & Apple, a new addition to its growing Squashies lineup. The new offering pairs the brand’s signature soft, foamy texture with a sour twist, aiming to deliver a balance of sweet and tart in each bite.
The release comes as consumer demand for sour candy continues to grow, with shoppers seeking bold, flavor-forward options across the category, the brand says. With Cherry & Apple Sours, Smarties expands its assortment while maintaining the distinctive gummy texture that has helped Squashies stand out on shelves, it says.
The candy is fat-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, and made without artificial dyes or flavors, with just 70 calories per serving. Smarties Squashies Sours Cherry & Apple will roll out to Walmart, Five Below, and Target in spring 2026.
“No direct competitor matches our combination of texture and flavor,” says Mike Fierro, VP of sales at Smarties. “With Squashies Sours, we’re bringing something new to the sour aisle that consumers haven’t experienced before.”
“Squashies have quickly built a loyal fanbase, and we will continue to expand the line in response to what our consumers are craving,” says Jessica Dee Sawyer, co-president of Smarties. “Cherry & Apple Sours introduce a fresh, tangier flavor profile while keeping the soft, squishy texture that defines the brand.”
The Squashies line has also drawn attention beyond the candy aisle, it says. In a 2019 interview, Taylor Swift described Squashies as “legit candy” and said of the Raspberry n’ Cream flavor, “it’s all the things I love.” The introduction of Cherry & Apple Sours builds on that enthusiasm, bringing a new flavor experience to consumers, the brand finishes.
