Sanders and Morley Candy Makers will unveil a renovated Chocolate & Ice Cream Shoppe this fall, the Clinton Township, Mich.-based company announced Wednesday.

It’s been 10 months since I joined Candy Industry, but it wasn’t until a week ago that I had a chance to partake in an event hosted by the Retail Confectioners International (RCI). I didn’t realize it, but I was in for a treat.

Last Thursday, more than 240 Retail Confectioners International (RCI) convention attendees toured Savage Bros. offices and its manufacturing facility in Elk Grove Village, Ill. The next day, 11 employees in the company’s engineering area of the 81,500-sq.-ft. complex were startled to hear a rumbling sound around 1:45 p.m.

Katjes International has purchased a 5.7 percent stake in Austrian wafer manufacturer Josef Manner & Comp AG, the German gummy maker announced earlier this month.

Switzerland-based Nestlé S.A. says it’s “exploring strategic options” for its nearly $1-billion U.S. confectionery business, including a possible sale.

The company is focused on improving its environmental sustainability, strengthening local communities, providing children with the nutrition they need to learn and grow, responding to consumers’ desire for greater transparency and simple ingredients, and offering an engaging and flexible workplace for its employees.

In attending the Welcome Reception on Monday evening and then touring the Expo the next day, I suddenly realized how quickly time can fly in the confectionery industry.
